Springs Practice #1 2011
If there is one thing that the family and I love more than any other about Summer, it’s that it brings with it speedway season. I’ve been going to tracks since I was about 5 years old, firstly with my parents then my wife and now with our family. There is something special about the unique sights and sounds of dirt track racing and while I’ve always been a huge super stock fan, when you live in Auckland you can’t but help beginning to fall in love with the winged wonders and midgets that call Western Springs home.
Here are a few snaps from Saturday’s first official practice starting with Wayne Greens 10A car.
I’d like to get my hands on a media pass, but I have no real idea how too : ) (the silver tinge is actually fence wire if you are that way inclined )
As always, the Salter Motorsport team have been busy in the off season, with Ron making a return to competition this year and Ryan O’Conner back in the saddle for the 11/12 season. The team are again bringing international racers for the season which always raises the bar for the locals, just a case of waiting to see whom it will be.
Back in NZ for a full season bar his Chilli bowl commitments is the man some call NZ’s greatest ever midget call pilot, Michael Pickens. Pickens had a tough year last year with more than one impromptu meeting with the fence wire, and he’ll be looking to re-new his battle with Jerry Coons in the new Auckland SsangYong backed Breka/Esslinger
Decided to use that image even tho its not great as I expect Hayden Williams in the Century backed car to challenge this year, Williams has got better and better as he’s had more seat time and has the skills to be at the sharp end of the field in the big events.
Also at that end of the field will be Jerry Coons, Michael Brunt, Michael Kendall and Brock Maskovich
